WEG MPW-80-3-D080 Motor Protection Circuit Breaker

The WEG MPW-80-3-D080 is a motor protection circuit breaker in the MPW-80 frame, rated for 6.5 A to 8.0 A, providing integrated thermal-magnetic overload and short-circuit protection for three-phase motors from 4.0 kW to 5.5 kW at 400 V AC. The MPW-80 frame is designed for motors at the boundary between small and medium motor MCCs, where higher fault levels, larger cable sizes, and more demanding operating cycles require a more robust protection device than the MPW-40 and MPW-65 series.

Protection Features

The MPW-80-3-D080 incorporates a differential bimetallic thermal element with single-phase loss sensitivity, magnetic instantaneous release calibrated for DOL starting with standard IEC motors (starting current ≤8× FLC), and an adjustable current range dial from 6.5 to 8.0 A. The device is manually reset after thermal trip, ensuring deliberate operator intervention before motor restart — a safety requirement in process plants per Saudi Aramco GI 2.100 safe restart procedures. Short-circuit release operates at approximately 12–14× rated current, interrupting fault currents safely with the high breaking capacity of the MPW-80 frame.
