Instrumentation & Control in Saudi Arabia

Instrumentation and control systems are the nervous system of modern process plants. In Saudi Arabia — home to some of the world's most complex petrochemical complexes, gas processing plants, desalination facilities and power stations — the accuracy, reliability and functional safety of instrumentation are not just operational requirements, they are regulatory and contractual obligations enforced by Saudi Aramco, SABIC, SWCC and the National Industrial Clusters Development Program.

Razz Middle East distributes the complete instrumentation and control portfolio required across the KSA industrial landscape. Our measurement instruments cover pressure (absolute, gauge and differential — from millibar to 1,000 bar), temperature (thermocouples, RTDs, filled-system and non-contact IR), flow (magnetic, Coriolis, vortex, ultrasonic, turbine, differential pressure with orifice plates), level (radar, guided-wave radar, ultrasonic, displacer, magnetic), and analytical (pH, conductivity, dissolved oxygen, turbidity, gas chromatography, CEMS). Our control systems span PLCs (Siemens S7, Allen Bradley ControlLogix, Mitsubishi MELSEC), DCS (Honeywell Experion, Emerson DeltaV, Yokogawa CENTUM), Safety Instrumented Systems (SIS/SIL-rated), and SCADA/HMI platforms.

Process conditions in Saudi Arabia demand instruments with wide temperature compensation ranges, corrosion-resistant wetted parts (316L SS, Hastelloy C-276 or titanium for H₂S service), and SIL 2/3 certification for safety-critical loops. We supply instruments pre-tagged and configured to project specifications, reducing commissioning time on tight schedule projects.

Instrumentation & Control Market in Saudi Arabia

Saudi Aramco's Instrumentation and Control discipline is governed by SAES-J standards, which specify approved vendor lists, calibration requirements and functional safety integrity levels for every instrument loop. Key SAES-J standards include: SAES-J-001 (instrument drawings), SAES-J-002 (in-line instruments), SAES-J-100 (safety instrumented systems), and SAES-J-902 (analysers). Endress+Hauser, Honeywell, Emerson (Rosemount and Fisher), Yokogawa and ABB Measurement are all on the Aramco Approved Vendor List (AVL) and constitute the majority of instrumentation specified in Aramco projects.

Buying Guide: Instrumentation & Control for Saudi Arabia

1

Confirm SIL rating for safety-critical loops

Any instrument loop that forms part of a Safety Instrumented Function (SIF) must carry an IEC 61511 (or IEC 61508) SIL rating verified by a third party. Saudi Aramco requires SIL verification reports for all SIS loops. Always request the SIL certificate and FMEDA data sheet with your instrumentation order.

2

Specify process wetted materials for H₂S and sour service

Many Saudi Aramco and SABIC processes handle hydrogen sulphide (H₂S). Standard 316L stainless steel flanges suffer hydrogen-induced cracking (HIC). Specify NACE MR 0175 / ISO 15156 compliance and, for severe sour service, use Hastelloy C-276 or Duplex 2205 wetted parts.

3

Match communication protocol to your DCS/PLC

HART (4–20 mA + digital), FOUNDATION Fieldbus H1, and PROFIBUS PA are the dominant protocols in Saudi process plants. Newer greenfield projects are specifying WirelessHART or ISA-100 wireless instruments. Confirm the plant communication standard before ordering to avoid incompatibility.

SASO & Regulatory Compliance — Instrumentation & Control

Instrumentation in Saudi Arabia must comply with IEC 61511 (functional safety for the process industry SIS), IEC 60079 (equipment for explosive atmospheres), and the relevant SASO/IEC measurement standards. Saudi Aramco imposes additional requirements via the SAES-J series, including mandatory device testing at the Saudi Aramco Research & Development Centre for certain instrument types. Razz Middle East supplies instruments pre-certified for Aramco projects where required.
