BURNDY PAD62-14 Copper Compression Splice Connector

The BURNDY PAD62-14 is an in-line copper compression splice connector designed for jointing two copper conductors in power cable splicing, aerial bunched cable (ABC) splicing, and underground cable joint box applications. The PAD62-14 is sized for 240mm² copper conductors (approximately 500 kcmil), making it a standard component in the higher end of medium-voltage cable jointing kits used throughout Saudi Arabia's industrial and utility power infrastructure. Manufactured from electrolytically pure copper tube with a uniform wall thickness achieved by CNC-controlled extrusion, the PAD62-14 develops a certified pull-out resistance per UL 486A that exceeds the conductor's own breaking strength — meaning the splice joint is never the mechanical weak point in a correctly installed conductor run.

BURNDY splice connectors are specified in Aramco cable jointing projects under SAES-P-104 as part of approved cable accessory system submittals. For 33kV and 132kV underground cable circuits at Aramco, the cable jointing work is performed by specialised jointing crews using pre-qualified cable joint kits from approved cable accessory manufacturers; the PAD62-14 is used as the conductor splice connector within these kits or as a standalone compression conductor splice where the kit manufacturer's conductor connector is not suitable for the specific conductor combination. The PAD62-14 is compatible with BURNDY's full range of hydraulic compression tooling, including the MD6 head dies for 240mm² copper, and the crimp sequence follows BURNDY's published tool qualification data for both hexagonal and round die crimp profiles. The connector is available in a plain copper finish and in a tin-plated version for applications where the splice connector is exposed to moisture after joint housing installation — the tin plating preventing long-term copper sulphide formation at the connector surface that can increase joint resistance over time.
