PAD62-14 — BURNDY PAD62-14 Copper Compression Splice Connector

The BURNDY PAD62-14 is an in-line copper compression splice connector designed for jointing two copper conductors in power cable splicing, aerial bunched cable (ABC) splicing, and underground cable joint box applications. The PAD62-14 is sized for 240mm² copper conductors (approximately 500 kcmil), making it a standard component in the higher end of medium-voltage cable jointing kits used throughout Saudi Arabia's industrial and utility power infrastructure. Manufactured from electrolytically pure copper tube with a uniform wall thickness achieved by CNC-controlled extrusion, the PAD62-14 develops a certified pull-out resistance per UL 486A that exceeds the conductor's own breaking strength — meaning the splice joint is never the mechanical weak point in a correctly installed conductor run.

BURNDY splice connectors are specified in Aramco cable jointing projects under SAES-P-104 as part of approved cable accessory system submittals. For 33kV and 132kV underground cable circuits at Aramco, the cable jointing work is performed by specialised jointing crews using pre-qualified cable joint kits from approved cable accessory manufacturers; the PAD62-14 is used as the conductor splice connector within these kits or as a standalone compression conductor splice where the kit manufacturer's conductor connector is not suitable for the specific conductor combination. In major cable pulling and termination projects — such as the underground cable networks serving Aramco's Ras Tanura refinery, Abqaiq processing facilities, and the Shaybah remote field development — tens of thousands of individual compression splices are made during construction, and the use of Aramco AVL-listed connectors is a contractual requirement enforced at material receiving inspection.

The PAD62-14 is compatible with BURNDY's full range of hydraulic compression tooling, including the MD6 head dies for 240mm² copper, and the crimp sequence follows BURNDY's published tool qualification data for both hexagonal and round die crimp profiles. The connector is available in a plain copper finish and in a tin-plated version for applications where the splice connector is exposed to moisture after joint housing installation — the tin plating preventing long-term copper sulphide formation at the connector surface that can increase joint resistance over time. Each PAD62-14 connector is supplied with BURNDY's installation instructions and die selection chart for QA documentation on Aramco and SABIC capital projects.

Razz Middle East maintains stock of BURNDY PAD62-14 connectors and can supply alongside BURNDY compression tooling to create a complete, AVL-compliant conductor splicing solution for contractor procurement teams. Our technical team provides support on die selection, compression sequence, and QA documentation requirements for Aramco cable jointing projects.

Key Features & Benefits

  • CNC-controlled extrusion delivers uniform wall thickness throughout the barrel, ensuring consistent crimp quality and certified pull-out resistance exceeding the conductor's own breaking strength.
  • Tin-plated variant prevents copper sulphide formation at the connector surface in moisture-exposed joint housing environments, maintaining low contact resistance over the cable circuit service life.
  • Compatible with BURNDY MD6 hydraulic compression head and all standard 240mm² copper die sets, with published tool qualification data for hexagonal and round crimp profiles.
  • Aramco SAES-P-104 accepted as part of AVL-compliant cable accessory submittals, with manufacturer die selection charts and installation instructions suitable for Aramco QA documentation packages.
  • Supplied with individual installation instructions and die selection chart per connector, supporting the QA traceability requirements of Aramco and SABIC capital projects.

Industrial Applications in Saudi Arabia

  • In-line conductor splicing within 33kV and 132kV underground cable joint kits at Aramco transmission and distribution cable circuits in the Eastern Province.
  • Conductor jointing during underground cable network construction at Aramco's Ras Tanura refinery, Abqaiq processing complex, and Shaybah remote field development projects.
  • Aerial bunched cable (ABC) in-line splicing at repair joints in medium-voltage overhead distribution circuits serving Aramco industrial zones.
  • Contractor-supplied cable jointing work where the kit manufacturer's connector is not rated for the specific copper conductor combination encountered on-site.
  • SEC and water utility underground cable network construction projects in Jubail, Yanbu, and Dammam industrial zones where AVL-listed connectors are required.
