The Mitsubishi FR-A842 High-Performance Inverter is the 400 V class variant of the FR-A800 platform, purpose-engineered for demanding process and manufacturing drives from 1.5 kW to 630 kW where advanced motor control, functional safety, and industrial network integration are non-negotiable requirements. The FR-A842 builds on the standard FR-A800's real sensorless vector control with additional features aimed specifically at process industry applications: a two-encoder feedback interface that supports both incremental and absolute encoders, enabling fully closed-loop speed and position control for winders, coaters, and section-control systems in continuous process lines. Its vector control bandwidth of 400 Hz (closed-loop) delivers sub-millisecond torque response — matching the performance of dedicated servo systems at a fraction of the cost for high-power axis applications.

The FR-A842 is distinguished by its built-in STO (Safe Torque Off) and SBC (Safe Brake Control) functions, certified to SIL 3 / PLe — the highest safety integrity level achievable in a drive, meeting IEC 62061 and EN ISO 13849-1 requirements for Category 4 / PLe safety architectures without any external safety relay hardware. The integrated CC-Link IE Field Network interface (up to 1 Gbps) enables direct connection to Mitsubishi MELSEC iQ-R and iQ-F PLC systems as a network slave with 0.5 ms cycle time, supporting the high-speed motion coordination required in multi-axis synchronised systems such as printing presses, converting lines, and automotive assembly lines. PROFIBUS-DP and EtherNet/IP options are also available for third-party PLC integration.
