Phoenix Contact QUINT-PS/1AC/24DC/20 Power Supply

The Phoenix Contact QUINT-PS/1AC/24DC/20 is a 480 W single-phase DIN-rail power supply providing regulated 24 V DC at 20 A continuous from a 100–240 V AC input, combining the signature QUINT SFB (Selective Fuse Breaking) technology with double the output capacity of the 10 A variant. The SFB pulse reaches 500% of rated current — 100 A for 12 milliseconds — providing even greater downstream fuse-blowing energy than the 10 A model, enabling selective clearance of 25 A and 32 A branch fuses in larger marshalling sections of Saudi ARAMCO and SABIC DCS panels without a pre-fuse. The 480 W output capacity covers the complete power budget of large 96-I/O or 128-I/O DCS marshalling sections — with 96 HART loops drawing approximately 5 A from the 24 V bus, plus solenoid valve and MOV (motor-operated valve) position transmitter loads adding 8–10 A, a 96-channel section typically sits within the 20 A QUINT-PS capacity with appropriate headroom for startup transients and cold-weather motor-operated valve spring-return operations.

The QUINT-PS 20A includes Phoenix Contact's SFB active alarm output that triggers when the supply detects a sustained overcurrent condition beyond the 12 ms SFB window — indicating that the downstream fuse did not blow within the SFB clearing time and that a wiring fault or wrong fuse selection may exist. This alarm contacts the DCS via the PSU alarm relay, enabling the instrument engineer to diagnose the fault before a sustained overcurrent degrades the PSU or the downstream wiring. The parallel ORing diode connection allows two QUINT-PS 20A units to provide a 40 A redundant bus, satisfying ARAMCO requirements for SIS and F&G panel power at the 480-channel scale — large LNG facility and refinery SIS marshalling panels can require 30–40 A of 24 V DC bus capacity, making the QUINT-PS 20A redundant pair the appropriate choice.

The QUINT-PS/1AC/24DC/20 is specified on ARAMCO's largest panel packages in the Kingdom — the Marjan and Zuluf field development programs, each adding over 150 km of offshore pipeline and multiple new GOSPs with 500+ I/O DCS marshalling panels. Saudi Aramco's Facility Engineering (FE) team has approved the QUINT-PS 20A as a standard power supply for large marshalling sections in these development programs, based on the SFB technology's demonstrated performance in existing Aramco operating plants.
