EFSC-1 — Killark EFSC-1 Zone 1 Explosion-Proof Sealing Fitting 1"

The Killark EFSC-1 is a conduit sealing fitting for 1-inch (NPT) metallic conduit systems in Zone 1 and Zone 2 hazardous areas, certified to ATEX II 2G Ex d IIB T6 and IECEx Ex d IIB T6, and additionally listed to UL 1203 for use in NEC Class I Division 1 and Division 2 classified locations. Manufactured by Hubbell Killark — one of the most widely AVL-listed explosion-proof electrical fitting manufacturers in the GCC petrochemical sector — the EFSC-1 sealing fitting is installed in conduit runs at the required sealing points mandated by IEC 60079-14 (Zone systems) and NFPA 70 NEC Article 501 (Division systems) to prevent the passage of flammable gases, vapours, or flames through the conduit from one area to another. The sealing compound fills the conduit interior at the fitting body, forming a gas-tight barrier when cured.

In Saudi Aramco wellhead and production facilities, Killark sealing fittings are a standard item in the hazardous-area electrical installation of GOSP (Gas-Oil Separation Plant) units, wellhead trees, flow line manifold areas, crude oil storage tank farm areas, and offshore platform topsides. Aramco's SAES-E-006 and SAES-E-021 hazardous area classification standards define extensive Zone 1 and Zone 2 areas around flammable gas and liquid release sources, and the electrical installation of conduit systems running between Zone 1 areas and non-hazardous areas or between different Zone classifications requires sealing fittings at the zone boundary. Killark's dual-certification (ATEX + IECEx + UL) means that Killark sealing fittings are accepted for use by Aramco regardless of whether the project's hazardous area electrical installation is governed by the European ATEX/IECEx framework or the North American NEC/UL framework — both of which appear in Aramco facilities due to the mix of international EPC contractors and engineering standards used across Aramco's project portfolio.

Similarly, at SABIC facilities in Jubail Industrial City — where petrochemical plant hazardous areas are classified and installed under the IECEx framework — Killark EFSC sealing fittings are specified for Zone 1 conduit sealing at pump manifold areas, reactor feed/effluent pipework corridors, and storage tank farms. The use of Killark products at SABIC Jubail is supported by Hubbell Killark's IECEx certification and by Killark's long-standing position on SABIC's approved materials register. The EFSC-1 uses a standard Killark sealing compound (Chico X) applied through the compound fill port, with the dam fibre packed into the conduit from the barrier port before compound filling — a well-established installation procedure documented in Killark's installation instruction sheets.

Razz Middle East supplies Killark EFSC sealing fittings across all standard conduit sizes (1/2" through 4") with in-stock availability in Dammam for the most common sizes including the EFSC-1. Killark sealing compound (Chico X) and dam fibre are also stocked for complete sealing fitting installation kits. Hubbell Killark certificates of conformance and ATEX/IECEx certificates are available for project documentation packages.

Key Features & Benefits

  • Dual ATEX/IECEx and UL 1203 certification means EFSC-1 is accepted on Aramco projects regardless of whether the hazardous area installation framework is European IECEx or North American NEC/UL.
  • IIB gas group certification covers the full range of hydrocarbon gases and vapours — propane, butane, natural gas, hydrogen sulphide — encountered in Aramco wellhead and GOSP environments.
  • T6 temperature class limits maximum surface temperature to 85°C, the most restrictive class for general hydrocarbon service, ensuring safe operation with ignition-sensitive vapour mixtures.
  • Standard Killark Chico X compound and dam fibre sealing procedure is well-documented and familiar to Aramco-qualified hazardous area electrical installation crews across the Kingdom.
  • Malleable iron body with zinc electroplating provides mechanical robustness and corrosion resistance for outdoor and tropical offshore platform environments.

Industrial Applications in Saudi Arabia

  • Zone 1 conduit sealing at GOSP wellhead and production manifold areas at Aramco onshore facilities in the Eastern Province where Zone 1/Zone 2 boundaries require IEC 60079-14 conduit sealing.
  • ATEX Zone 1 conduit system sealing at SABIC Jubail petrochemical plant pump manifold areas, reactor corridors, and flammable liquid storage tank farms.
  • NEC Class I Division 1 conduit sealing at Aramco offshore platform topsides and nearshore facilities where NEC-standard electrical systems are used alongside ATEX equipment.
  • Conduit boundary sealing at Aramco and SABIC control building conduit entries where conduits pass from Zone 1 hazardous areas into non-hazardous electrical rooms.
  • Hazardous-area conduit sealing in Aramco gas compression station and pipeline pigging station electrical installations across the Eastern Province and central Saudi Arabia.
