LS MDX Submersible Pump Drive

The LS MDX Submersible Pump Drive is a purpose-designed variable frequency inverter for direct submersible installation alongside borehole and deep-well submersible pumps, rated from 0.4 kW to 75 kW with an IP68 ingress protection rating certified for deployment at depths up to 50 metres below water level. Unlike conventional VFDs installed at the surface in aboveground panels, the MDX drive mounts directly on the pump motor assembly and descends into the borehole with it, eliminating the long motor cable runs between surface drives and submersible motors that cause voltage reflection, dV/dt damage to motor windings, and EMI emissions in conventional submersible pump VFD systems. The MDX-40kW model provides 40 kW of variable speed control using sinusoidal PWM output that reduces motor heating compared to conventional trapezoidal PWM inverters, extending submersible motor service life in the most demanding continuous-duty applications.

The MDX drive operates with a standard 380–480 V AC three-phase supply connected via the borehole cable to the submersible installation, and communicates with a surface-mounted MDX controller unit via the same power cable using power-line communication technology — eliminating the need for a separate signal cable in the borehole. The surface controller provides the operator interface, speed reference input, and SCADA connectivity via Modbus RTU or RS-485, enabling integration with irrigation system controllers, water authority SCADA systems, and remote telemetry units commonly deployed in Saudi Arabia's distributed water network. The operating temperature range of -10°C to +40°C water temperature covers Saudi Arabia's groundwater conditions, and the drive withstands hydrostatic pressure equivalent to 50 metres of water column, meeting the requirements of the deepest common borehole pump installations in the Kingdom.

Saudi Arabia's agricultural and municipal water supply is heavily dependent on deep borehole extraction from the Saq, Qasim, and Minjur aquifer systems, with thousands of boreholes operated by the Ministry of Environment, Water and Agriculture (MEWA) and private agricultural investors across the Kingdom.
