Mitsubishi MR-J4 Servo Amplifier

The Mitsubishi MR-J4 Servo Amplifier is the fourth generation of Mitsubishi Electric's industry-standard MELSERVO platform, providing precision servo drive capability from 0.05 kW to 55 kW with a response frequency bandwidth of 2.5 kHz — sufficient for the most demanding Saudi manufacturing applications involving high-speed positioning, high-dynamic torque control, and electronic synchronisation. The MR-J4 supports three control modes — position, speed, and torque — switchable on-the-fly during operation, and interfaces with SSCNET III/H (high-speed fibre optic serial communication) for direct connection to MELSEC iQ-R and MELSEC Q motion CPUs at 0.444 ms to 3.5 ms communication cycle times. The built-in STO (Safe Torque Off) function is certified to SIL 2 / PLd and eliminates external safety relay hardware in most machine guarding circuit designs.

The MR-J4's one-parameter tuning function uses an adaptive algorithm that automatically measures the machine's moment of inertia and mechanical resonances during commissioning and continuously adjusts control gains in real time — enabling high-bandwidth servo response on machines with flexible coupling, long ball-screw mechanisms, or variable load inertia without specialist servo commissioning knowledge. Mitsubishi's advanced vibration suppression technology (up to 4 resonance frequency filters) extends the effective servo bandwidth on real machines beyond what the basic response speed specification suggests. The MR-J4 also incorporates a position deviation monitor and an electronic gear function that supports gear ratios from 1/1000 to 1000 — enabling direct drive of load devices without physical gearboxes in applications where reflected inertia permits.

In Saudi Arabia, the MR-J4 is the predominant servo amplifier in machine tool, packaging automation, and industrial robot system integrations. Saudi machine builders developing local CNC machine tools under the Vision 2030 industrial localisation programme specify MR-J4 servo drives for axis control, where the SSCNET III/H network achieves multi-axis position synchronisation error of less than 1 μm on a 3-axis system.
