WEG Power Transformer 33/11kV Oil-Immersed

The WEG Power Transformer is an oil-immersed substation transformer for primary substation step-down from 33 kV to 11 kV (or other HV/MV voltage combinations), manufactured in ratings from 2.5 MVA to 100 MVA. These transformers serve the backbone of Saudi Arabia's 132 kV, 33 kV, and 13.8 kV primary distribution networks, connecting SEC's high-voltage transmission grid to the 11 kV medium-voltage distribution system that feeds industrial, commercial, and municipal consumers across the Kingdom. WEG's power transformer manufacturing capability encompasses core-type and shell-type designs, ONAN, ONAF, and OFAF cooling classes, on-load tap changers (OLTC) for voltage regulation, and dual-winding and auto-transformer configurations — providing the engineering flexibility to meet the diverse substation specifications encountered in Saudi SEC, ARAMCO, and SABIC HV/MV substation projects.

WEG power transformers are designed and manufactured to IEC 60076-1 through IEC 60076-7, covering the complete series of general, temperature rise, dielectric, loading guide, and transformer fire behaviour standards. Each transformer undergoes a comprehensive factory test programme including routine tests (impedance, no-load loss, load loss, voltage ratio, vector group), type tests (temperature rise, impulse withstand, switching impulse for transformers above 72.5 kV), and special tests (partial discharge, frequency response analysis, acoustic noise level) as specified in the purchase order. On-load tap changers from Maschinenfabrik Reinhausen (MR) or ABB are supplied as standard, with ±10% or ±15% voltage regulation range to handle the voltage variations on Saudi 33 kV and 132 kV networks. ONAN base rating with ONAF upgrade through fan addition provides 133% rated capacity, a common requirement in SEC substation specifications.

Saudi Arabia's power sector expansion under Vision 2030 — including the build-out of renewable energy (Al-Shuaibah, Sudair, Neom's 4 GW solar-wind hybrid) and new industrial cities (Ras Al-Khair, Wa'ad Al-Shamal, NEOM) — is creating sustained demand for 33/11 kV, 132/33 kV, and 380/132 kV power transformers as new primary substations are constructed.
