WEG W-Tools Drive Configuration and Commissioning Software

WEG W-Tools is a free, PC-based drive configuration, commissioning, and diagnostic software package that provides engineering teams in Saudi Arabia with a comprehensive toolset for setting up, monitoring, and troubleshooting the complete range of WEG variable frequency drives — CFW500, CFW700, CFW11, CFW300, CFW10, SSW06, SSW07 soft starters, and the WEG WLP-2 PLC. W-Tools connects to WEG drives via USB or Ethernet, and through the WEG W-Gate IoT gateway also provides cloud-accessible parameter reading and writing capability for remote drive management across geographically dispersed sites in the Kingdom. The software's intuitive parameter tree, graphical oscilloscope function, and drive wizard-guided commissioning reduce the time and skill level required to commission a WEG drive, making first-time setup by in-country Saudi electrical contractors straightforward without requiring WEG factory training.

W-Tools' oscilloscope function captures up to eight simultaneous drive and process variables — output current, speed, torque, DC bus voltage, analog inputs, and digital input states — at sampling rates up to 1 ms, providing the same visibility into drive transient behaviour that previously required external data recorders. This diagnostic capability enables Saudi maintenance engineers to analyse nuisance trip root causes — identifying whether a trip originates from load transients, supply voltage sags, mechanical overload, or motor thermal events — without escalating to costly and time-consuming WEG field service visits. The fault log displays the 20 most recent trips with timestamps and the drive's operating state (speed, current, voltage, torque) at the moment of each trip, providing the context needed for rapid root cause identification.

W-Tools' Drive Wizard commissioning function guides the user through motor nameplate data entry, auto-tuning sequence execution, and application configuration — pump, fan, compressor, or conveyor — setting the most critical parameters for each application type automatically. For users managing large drive fleets, W-Tools supports parameter file save, compare, and upload, allowing a commissioning engineer to create a master parameter file on one drive and replicate it across multiple identical drives in minutes — a workflow that significantly reduces commissioning time on multi-drive projects such as NWC pump station MCCs, SABIC utility fan systems, and NEOM chiller plant drive banks. Parameter files can be version-controlled and archived for the project documentation packages required by ARAMCO and SABIC project quality plans.
