ABB SUNSHIELD Weatherproof Sun Shield outdoor

The ABB SUNSHIELD Weatherproof Sun Shield outdoor is a sun shield / weather hood from ABB Measurement & Analytics, engineered for demanding process measurement duty across the oil & gas, petrochemical, power and water sectors of Saudi Arabia. The SUNSHIELD outdoor is a sun shield / weather hood accessory that protects and conditions ABB pressure transmitters in aggressive, hot and particulate-laden Saudi process media. Headline specifications include Type Sun shield / weather hood, Variant outdoor, Material 316L SS / Hastelloy / Monel option, Rating Up to 420 bar / PN420, making it a dependable choice where measurement accuracy, long-term stability and low maintenance directly affect plant uptime and product quality.

In the Kingdom, instrumentation must perform reliably in one of the harshest operating environments on earth. Ambient temperatures regularly exceed 50 °C, airborne dust and sand are constant, and coastal humidity along the Eastern Province accelerates corrosion. The SUNSHIELD-OUTDOOR is built with robust 316L stainless steel wetted parts, epoxy-coated or stainless housings rated to IP66/IP67, and wide-temperature electronics that hold their published accuracy through the full Saudi seasonal swing. ATEX, IECEx and SIL-rated variants are available for the hazardous Zone 1 and Zone 2 areas common to SATORP gas plants and refineries, and SAES-compliant configurations are offered for projects governed by Saudi Aramco engineering standards.

Operators at SATORP (Jubail Total refinery), Saudi Aramco (Ghawar / Abqaiq oil & gas processing) and NWC (national water network treatment works) deploy ABB Measurement instrumentation because of its proven diagnostics, intuitive HMI configuration and seamless integration with Foundation Fieldbus, PROFIBUS PA, HART and 4-20 mA control architectures. Built-in self-monitoring detects sensor drift, process build-up and electronic faults early, allowing maintenance teams at SEC and Sadara to move from reactive repair to predictive, condition-based servicing — a key requirement under Saudi Vision 2030 operational-excellence programmes.
