About Telemecanique TeSys Motor Circuit Breakers
A motor circuit breaker of this type does two jobs that would otherwise need two devices. A thermal element follows the heating of the motor windings and trips on sustained overload; a magnetic element trips almost instantly on a short circuit. The thermal element is adjustable, and each catalogue reference covers one band of full-load current: the digits at the end of the reference select which band the device is built for, so the correct reference is the one whose band contains the motor's nameplate current with the dial set inside the range rather than at its limit. GV2 is the smaller frame and GV3 the larger, which is the main division within the family. The range includes rotary-knob and pushbutton actuator versions, distinguished by the letters in the reference. Accessories are frame-specific: auxiliary and signalling contact blocks, undervoltage and shunt trips, enclosures and door-mounted handles, and the busbar links used to make combination starters with TeSys D contactors.
