The Atlas Copco Optimizer 4.0 is a master controller and energy management system for multi-compressor compressed air installations, designed to minimise total energy consumption across a compressor park of up to 6 units (expandable to 12 with dual units) while maintaining continuous system pressure within a tight setpoint band. Rather than allowing individual compressors to cycle independently — which inevitably leads to compressors fighting each other, over-pressurising the system, or running at inefficient part-load — the Optimizer 4.0 calculates the most energy-efficient combination of running machines and load-shares demand between them in real time, producing a flat pressure profile and the lowest possible total kilowatt consumption across the installed base.
The Optimizer 4.0 operates on Atlas Copco's ES series control platform and connects to up to 6 Atlas Copco compressors via RS485 Modbus or the OPTIMIZER BUS protocol, reading individual machine operating parameters and controlling their setpoints and start/stop commands centrally. For mixed fleets including non-Atlas Copco compressors, a universal analog interface allows integration. The system continuously monitors system pressure via its own dedicated transmitter, calculates demand from pressure trend and flow, and adjusts the running compressor fleet accordingly — reducing unnecessary idle running, preventing over-pressurisation, and equalising running hours between machines to maximise fleet life.
