Flowserve BX Single Mechanical Seal API 682

The Flowserve BX is a single, balanced, pusher-type cartridge mechanical seal designed to API 682 4th Edition Category 1, Arrangement 1 (single seal) requirements, providing a reliable, cost-effective seal solution for pump services where dual pressurised sealing is not required by the fluid hazard class or ARAMCO engineering standard classification. The BX-2.500 designates a 2.500-inch (63.5 mm) shaft size, compatible with the OVHM3x2x8, BWXD, and Durco Mark 3 pump frames. The balanced seal face design reduces hydraulic closing force at elevated pressures, extending face life and reducing seal heat generation in high-pressure services such as water injection and produced water disposal where seal chamber pressures can exceed 20 bar. The single-coil spring design is tolerant of particulate-contaminated process fluids — a significant advantage over multi-spring designs in produced water, slurry, and utility water services where spring clogging is a common failure mode.

The BX's cartridge format — a self-contained assembly of seal faces, spring, hardware, and gland plate — provides the same field-installation simplicity as the dual ISC2-PP without requiring a barrier fluid system, making it the preferred seal for water injection pumps, utility water pumps, cooling water services, and light hydrocarbon services where ARAMCO SAES-A-004 Table 1 designates Arrangement 1 as the appropriate seal configuration.
