Festo SDAT-MHS Position Sensor for Pneumatic Cylinder

The Festo SDAT-MHS is a through-beam magnetic field sensor designed for end-position detection on pneumatic cylinders with T-slot profiles (ISO 15552 DNC, ISO 21287 ADN, DSBC, and compatible series). Unlike conventional reed-contact sensors, the SDAT-MHS uses a solid-state Hall effect switching element with no moving parts and a guaranteed switching repeatability of ±0.1 mm — enabling reliable end-position detection even at cylinder speeds up to 5 m/s that would cause timing jitter in mechanical switch designs. The sensor mounts by sliding into the cylinder's external T-slot groove and locking with a single screw, requiring no tools other than a screwdriver, and connects via a standard M8 connector. Output is a PNP solid-state transistor switching signal compatible with all standard PLC digital input modules (24 V DC, sink/source configurable).

The sensor's operating characteristics are engineered for industrial reliability: IP67 protection resists immersion and high-pressure washdown for 30 minutes, the metal housing withstands mechanical impacts and vibration that would crack plastic-bodied sensors in high-cycle machinery, and the -25°C to +75°C operating temperature range covers both refrigerated food processing environments and the ambient heat of Saudi Arabia's summer-loaded factory floors.
