SC-30 — FLSmidth Dorr-Oliver SuperCell Flotation Machine SC-30

The FLSmidth Dorr-Oliver SuperCell Flotation Machine SC-30 is a 30 m³ forced-air mechanical flotation cell designed for high-throughput base metal, phosphate, and industrial mineral flotation circuits. The SuperCell design combines the traditional Dorr-Oliver forced-air rotor-stator mechanism — known for its superior air dispersion and bubble size distribution — with an enlarged cell volume that reduces the number of cells required per bank, simplifying plant layout and reducing capital cost in large throughput applications. The SC-30 is positioned in the large-cell segment, appropriate for rougher and scavenger flotation duties in circuits processing 500–2000 t/h of ore feed.

The Dorr-Oliver forced-air rotor-stator is the defining feature that differentiates the SuperCell from self-aspirating mechanical flotation cells and from column flotation cells. The external forced-air blower delivers precisely controlled air volume to the rotor, which disperses it into fine bubbles with a precisely controlled bubble size distribution. Fine, uniform bubbles provide higher surface area per unit volume of air than coarse bubbles, improving mineral attachment probability and flotation kinetics for both fast-floating and slow-floating mineral species. The rotor speed is independently controllable, allowing the operator to optimise air dispersion independently of froth depth and reagent additions.

Maaden Phosphate Company's beneficiation plant at Wa'ad Al-Shamal — the world's single largest phosphate mining and processing complex — uses flotation as the core separation technology for removing silica, carbonate, and clay gangue from phosphate ore. The phosphate flotation circuit at MPC operates at massive scale, processing millions of tonnes of ore per year, and the selection of large, reliable flotation cells that minimise maintenance intervention and cell standby downtime is critical to plant availability and concentrate production targets. FLSmidth's SuperCell technology is proven in both phosphate and potash flotation circuits globally, providing direct application relevance for Saudi operations.

Razz Middle East provides FLSmidth Dorr-Oliver flotation cell supply and support in Saudi Arabia. Our technical team assists with cell sizing and circuit design for new flotation installations, supply of replacement rotor-stator mechanisms and wear parts for existing Dorr-Oliver installations, and on-site commissioning and optimisation services. We hold local stock of the most frequently replaced Dorr-Oliver SuperCell wear components — rotors, stators, tank liners, and launder sections — for rapid response to maintenance requirements at Saudi mineral processing sites.

Key Features & Benefits

  • Forced-air Dorr-Oliver rotor-stator mechanism with external blower provides precise, independent control of air volume and bubble size distribution, producing the fine, uniform bubble population that maximises mineral attachment probability in phosphate and sulphide ore flotation.
  • 30 m³ cell volume reduces the number of cells required per rougher bank by up to 50% compared with 15 m³ cells, significantly simplifying plant layout, reducing pipework, and lowering capital and installation cost.
  • Independent rotor speed and air rate control enables operators to optimise air dispersion for the specific ore type being processed — a critical feature in operations like Saudi phosphate where ore characteristics vary with mining zone.
  • Radial adjustable-depth froth crowder maintains consistent froth depth across the full cell width, improving froth drainage and grade performance in rougher and cleaner flotation applications.
  • Replaceable rubber-lined tank and rubber-lined launder sections minimise cell body wear and are field-replaceable without draining the full flotation circuit, reducing planned maintenance downtime.

Industrial Applications in Saudi Arabia

  • Phosphate rougher and scavenger flotation at Ma'aden Phosphate Company's Wa'ad Al-Shamal beneficiation plant, separating silica and carbonate gangue from phosphate ore at the massive throughput scale of the world's largest single phosphate complex.
  • Potash amine flotation for sylvite-halite separation in new Saudi potash deposit exploration and processing projects under the Vision 2030 strategic minerals programme.
  • Copper, zinc, and lead sulphide rougher flotation at new base metal mining projects on the Arabian Shield, where FLSmidth's global sulphide flotation experience translates directly to Saudi ore mineralogy.
  • Phosphate direct or reverse flotation circuit configurations at Saudi and regional phosphate producers supplying DAP, MAP, and SSP fertiliser plants across the GCC agricultural sector.
  • Gold leach pre-concentration flotation at Arabian Shield gold deposits, concentrating sulphide-hosted gold into a smaller flotation concentrate mass for downstream cyanide leaching, reducing leaching reagent consumption.
