Both families are compact wall or panel-mounted drives for asynchronous motors on general machinery duty. ATV11 was the small, simple end of the range, aimed at single machines with a short parameter set. ATV31 was the broader general-purpose family that followed, with a fuller parameter set, more input and output terminals and communication options. Both were superseded years ago — the general-purpose line continued through ATV12, ATV312 and later ATV320 and ATV340 — but neither disappeared from service, because a working drive on a working machine is rarely replaced until it fails.
