Atlas Copco Secoroc QL60 DTH Hammer 6"

The Atlas Copco Secoroc QL60 is a 6-inch (152 mm) Down-The-Hole (DTH) hammer designed for high-penetration blast-hole and water well drilling in the 152–178 mm hole diameter range. As part of the Secoroc QL series — Atlas Copco's premium valveless DTH hammer line — the QL60 uses a reverse-circulation check-valve-free hammer mechanism that eliminates the valve body as a wear component, resulting in a dramatically longer service life between overhauls compared with valved competitors. Operating at air pressures between 17 and 35 bar, the QL60 is compatible with the full range of high-pressure atlas copco XRHS and XAHS portable compressors as well as the onboard compressors of Epiroc SmartROC and ROC D7C drill rigs, making it the standard DTH hammer specified on high-pressure surface rig programmes across the Middle East.

In Saudi Arabia's mining and exploration sector, the QL60 is the workhorse DTH hammer for 6-inch blast-hole production drilling at both open-pit hard rock mines and quarry operations. At the Ad Duwayhi gold mine in the Makkah province and the Al-Amar gold mine in the Riyadh province, production drilling in hard greenstone and granite formations demands a DTH hammer that maintains consistent percussion energy delivery as bit face wear progresses through the shift. The QL60's air distribution system maintains stable blow frequency and piston stroke throughout the working pressure range, producing consistent penetration rates in hard rock even as bit face buttons dull between sharpenings. Its forged steel outer cylinder with induction-hardened inner bore resists the abrasive wear from hard quartz-bearing formations common in Arabian Shield gold mineralisation.

Water well drilling is a significant application segment for the QL60 across Saudi Arabia's arid interior. As the Kingdom's population growth and agricultural sector drive continued demand for deep water wells — many reaching 400–600 metres depth in the Al-Wajh, Tayma, and Tabuk aquifer systems — DTH hammer drilling in the 152–165 mm diameter range has become the dominant technology for hard rock sections of deep well profiles. The QL60's valveless design and hardened cylinder translate to longer hammer service intervals in continuous-operation water well drilling, where rigs may drill 10–14 hours per day for weeks on remote sites without access to workshop servicing facilities. The hammer's field-serviceable inner mechanism allows trained operators to replace worn piston and chuck components on-site with standard tools, avoiding the mobilisation cost of workshop retrieval on remote drilling programmes.
