DD180+ — Atlas Copco DD180+ Compressed Air Filter

The Atlas Copco DD180+ is a coalescing compressed air filter in the DD series, designed to remove bulk liquid water, bulk oil aerosols, and solid particulates to deliver ISO 8573-1 Class 1 for oil content (≤0.01 mg/m³) and Class 3 for solid particles (≤5 μm). Handling flow rates up to 180 m³/h at 7 bar(e), the DD180+ fills the mid-range capacity bracket as a dedicated pre-dryer oil-water separator and coalescing filter for compressor outlet treatment, instrument air headers, and point-of-use filter stations. Its design integrates seamlessly into Atlas Copco compressed air treatment trains — typically positioned after the compressor and before refrigerant or adsorption dryers, or as a standalone quality upgrade on existing compressed air systems.

The DD+ series uses Atlas Copco's Optimizer+ filter element technology — a multi-layer borosilicate glass fibre element with a PTFE outer wrap that provides low differential pressure drop (typically 0.02 bar at rated flow) while achieving high coalescing efficiency. The low pressure drop directly translates into compressor energy savings — every 0.1 bar reduction in system pressure drop saves approximately 0.5–0.7% of compressor energy. The DD180+'s element has a rated service life of 4000 hours and is easily changed without tools through the quick-release element retainer. An integral differential pressure indicator confirms element condition without requiring a separate gauge or transmitter.

In Saudi Arabia, Atlas Copco DD series filters are standard components in ARAMCO-specified compressed air treatment packages, where instrument air quality must comply with SAES-J-002 requirements for oil, particulate, and moisture content. SABIC project engineers routinely include DD filters in the instrument air treatment train for all new process plant utility air packages across Jubail and Yanbu. The DD180+ is also widely used in compressed air quality upgrade projects at existing Saudi industrial facilities, where point-of-use filter skids retrofitted between the compressor room and the instrument air header bring legacy systems up to current air quality standards without replacing the compressors themselves.

Razz Middle East carries DD180+ filter housings and Optimizer+ elements in local Saudi stock, with same-day availability for most standard configurations.

Key Features & Benefits

  • Optimizer+ multi-layer borosilicate glass fibre element with PTFE outer wrap achieves ISO 8573-1 Class 1 oil removal (≤0.01 mg/m³) with only 0.02 bar pressure drop at rated flow.
  • Integrated differential pressure indicator provides at-a-glance element condition monitoring without a separate gauge, simplifying routine inspection in compressor rooms.
  • Quick-release element retainer allows tool-free element change in under 5 minutes, minimising service downtime and requiring no specialist tools in the field.
  • Maximum working pressure of 16 bar(e) covers all standard industrial compressed air systems, including high-pressure instrument air headers in oil-and-gas facilities.
  • Transparent bowl option available for visual liquid level inspection, providing early warning of abnormal liquid carry-over from the compressor or upstream treatment equipment.

Industrial Applications in Saudi Arabia

  • Pre-dryer coalescing filter in Atlas Copco and third-party compressed air treatment trains at ARAMCO instrument air stations, ensuring oil removal before adsorption dryers for SAES-J-002 compliance.
  • Point-of-use filter stations on instrument air headers in SABIC petrochemical complexes at Jubail, providing final quality assurance at critical pneumatic actuator supply points.
  • Compressed air quality upgrade projects at existing Saudi industrial facilities, where DD180+ filter skids retrofit between compressor rooms and instrument air headers to bring legacy systems to current air quality standards.
  • Compressor outlet treatment at SWCC and NWC water treatment facilities, protecting downstream pneumatic actuators on water control valves from oil aerosol contamination.
  • Production line point-of-use filtration at SFDA-licensed food and pharmaceutical manufacturers requiring confirmed oil-free compressed air at individual process stations.
