PVDF6x8-18 — Flowserve PVDF VS1 API 610 Vertical Sump Pump

The Flowserve PVDF is a vertical, wet-pit, single-casing centrifugal pump designed to API 610 12th Edition VS1 configuration, engineered for sump, pit, and tank-mounted installations where space constraints, NPSH availability, and the need to handle volatile or hazardous liquids preclude the use of a horizontal surface pump. The PVDF6x8-18 model places the suction at the bottom of an 18-inch column pipe with a six-inch discharge flange and eight-inch impeller bowl, immersing the hydraulic end in the pumped liquid and drawing from a depth of one to twelve metres — the preferred arrangement for volatile hydrocarbon sumps, produced water pits, and chemical injection tanks at ARAMCO and SABIC facilities where the liquid level varies widely and maintaining a positive suction head above the impeller is not achievable from a surface installation.

The VS1 configuration positions the driver — typically a top-mounted flange motor or hollow-shaft motor — at grade level, isolating the electrical machine entirely from the hazardous liquid zone. The column pipe and shaft assembly are designed to API 610 lateral critical speed requirements, keeping the first critical speed at no less than 120% of maximum continuous speed to prevent resonant vibration in variable-level sump applications. The enclosed impeller bowl hydraulics are precision machined to minimise NPSHR, which is inherently low for a submerged pump, and the bowls are manufactured in Duplex 2205 or CD4MCu as standard for sour water, amine, and produced water duties where both corrosion and erosion resistance are required by ARAMCO material specifications.

Saudi ARAMCO uses VS1-type vertical sump pumps extensively at its amine treating units, sour water strippers, hydrocarbon drain sumps, and produced water collection pits across the Abqaiq, Berri, and Ras Tanura processing facilities. The ARAMCO standard SAES-A-004 references API 610 VS1 configuration for sump and pit services where the liquid level is variable or where locating the pump below grade is required by HAZOP study for vapour pressure control. SABIC and its affiliates at Jubail Industrial City specify vertical sump pumps for organic chemical sumps in ethylene, propylene, and aromatics plants where the submerged bowl eliminates hydrocarbon vapour losses through mechanical seal faces and allows pump-out to very low sump levels without prime loss. Flowserve's factory in Raleigh, North Carolina, and its Dammam service hub provide API 610 compliance documentation, bowl wear-ring replacement, and shaft straightness verification as part of the scheduled inspection programme.

Razz Middle East maintains stock of PVDF column pipe assemblies, bowl wear rings, and shaft couplings for rapid turnaround at ARAMCO and SABIC facilities. Our team provides complete sump pump package design including above-grade discharge head, motorised isolation valve, instrumentation standpipes, and factory pre-wired junction box to ARAMCO NEC 500 / IEC 60079 Zone 1 hazardous area classification requirements. We support the full procurement cycle from initial duty specification and PVDF model selection through vendor data requirement (VDR) submission, third-party inspection, and post-installation commissioning assistance, positioning Razz Middle East as the single-point partner for Flowserve VS1 pumps across the Kingdom.

Key Features & Benefits

  • VS1 submerged-bowl configuration eliminates suction NPSH problems for volatile hydrocarbon and produced water sumps, with the impeller always operating below liquid level regardless of sump drawdown.
  • Top-mounted motor at grade level isolates the electrical machine from the hazardous liquid zone, satisfying ARAMCO Zone 1 (IEC 60079) motor placement requirements.
  • API 610 lateral critical speed compliance in the column-shaft assembly keeps first critical speed at ≥ 120% of maximum continuous speed, preventing resonant vibration across the full variable-level operating range.
  • Duplex 2205 and CD4MCu bowl and impeller material options resist simultaneous corrosion and erosion in sour water, amine, and chloride-bearing produced water services per SAES-G-005.
  • Enclosed impeller bowl precision machined for minimum NPSHR, enabling pump-out to very low sump levels without prime loss — critical for complete drainage of GOSP produced water collection sumps.

Industrial Applications in Saudi Arabia

  • Amine treating unit sump and drain collection at ARAMCO gas processing facilities in Abqaiq and Berri, handling corrosive rich and lean amine with Duplex 2205 or CD4MCu wetted parts.
  • Sour water stripper feed and reflux drum pumpout at ARAMCO and SABIC hydrocarbon processing plants, where the submerged bowl prevents volatile sour water from flashing through mechanical seal faces.
  • Produced water collection pit transfer at ARAMCO GOSPs across the Eastern Province, maintaining GOSP water handling capacity during peak production periods with variable inflow rates.
  • Organic chemical sump pumpout at SABIC ethylene and propylene plants in Jubail, where API 610 VS1 configuration is mandated by SABIC engineering standards for flammable liquid sump services.
  • Ballast and bilge pump service on ARAMCO and Saudi Aramco Marine Division FSOs and shuttle tankers, where the vertical configuration fits within the confined pump room space allowance.
